The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.įor some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens. Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). In general, 58mm lenses cannot be called fifty dollars, because of the longer focal length they are stronger blur the backgroundthat can be used for creative ideas and highlight key elements in the photo. You can read about the 13-petal white version for the m39 thread here. If I were asked what modification of the Helios-44 lens I kept for myself, then my choice would have stopped at one of the first Helios-44 lenses with a white body due to the fact that the first Helios-44 lenses had a 13-blade diaphragm and a diaphragm control ring. I purchased a screw in hood but didn't really notice any improvements, but will leave it on as it can't hurt. Everything said above is still true after a solid month with this lens. That is why you buy this type of lens afterall isn't it?Įdit: Did Single in February with this lens and have got to know it a bit better. But this is a lens you use for the not sharp bits.įlair resistance is pretty awful though compared to more modern lenses. But even pretty good wide open in the focus sweet spot. Sharpness is great when stopped down a touch. Also I consistently get great comments on my photos taken with this lens and people want to know what it is. Only 6 blades so stopping down even a notch or two will give slightly hexagonal bokeh. Although reportedly not as good as the older versions, but again I can't comment, other than I am extremely happy with it. The bokeh provides that famous Helios swirl in the right conditions. I put a tiny bit of glue on the aperture control pin to keep it locked in position. Easily and smoothly with the slight click and tactile feedback expected when using the aperture ring. The focus ring and aperture rings move as if brand new. Being the newer model means mine is in perfect condition. But from my point of view this is a wonderful lens. To be fair this is my one and only Helios so I can't compare to others. Sharpness: 8 Aberrations: 10 Bokeh: 9 Handling: 8 Value: 10
